"Along The Way" with the Cause Collective, Oakland International Airport and the Sundance 2008 Film Festival30' x 10' video installationOfficial Selection of the 2008 Sundance Film FestivalCommissioned by the Port of Oakland for the Oakland International Airport.Created in collaboration with the Cause Collective - Bayeté Ross Smith, Hank Willis Thomas, Jessica Ingram, Jorge Sanchez and Ryan Alexiev. Original music by David Molina.Along the Way is a 14 minute video mosaic that includes over 1,500 videos taken by the artists featuring the people and places of Oakland, California and the surrounding Bay Area. Upon arriving in Oakland, viewers are reminded that community is made up of a myriad of peoples. Individuals of different ages, races, and socio-economic backgrounds are depicted without being categorized. The thread is their humanity which is evoked in video portraits and the culminating video mosaic. At its core, Along the Way is about the journeys diverse communities bestow upon its people. This is captured in extraordinary video portraits of everyday people. At times intensity, seriousness, humor or even lightness is evoked through a stare, grin or grimace. Faces and places merge and commingle creating a vocabulary that evokes mood while underscoring place and movement with the unifying thread being the humanity of what we all encounter “Along The Way”.
